PowerBI: How to import an Excel file located in a SharePoint

I share here a recent learning about how to load data from an Excel file located in a SharePoint into PowerBI.

Problem description

I want to share a PowerBI file with the data behind being stored in an Excel file located in a SharePoint as well. Advantage is that the PowerBI file can be used locally from anywhere.

Solution

Get Data → More...→SharePoint Folder

enter the site root url - only one level below /sites/

Choose Microsoft Account to connect

Do not choose your Windows login but login with your organizational Microsoft account

Filter the source to Select the file to load

If the list of files in your site is too long you will need to filter the source name to find the file you want to import.
