I list here some video tools recommendations/ resources for creating video content on a Windows PC.
Recording
OBS
OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) is the state-of-the-art OpenSource free tool for video / screencast recording and streaming.
You can install it without Admin rights using a Portable Installation.
You get directly the recording as mp4.
See Kevin's beginner's video:
Camtasia
Camtasia is the tool I use at work. Main drawback: it isn't free. (250EUR)
Main advantage: it is a tool for both recording AND editing.
It will record your video stream in a separate track so you can post-edit it afterwards (contrary to OBS where you can only configure the recording while recording online.)
You need to produce/edit the recording to get an mp4.
Editing / Producing
Shotcut
Website: http://shotcut.org/
Shotcut if OpenSource Free.
Lightwise installation. (no portable version)
See Kevin's Intro tutorial:
DaVinci Resolve Studio
This is free. And the professional tool used by Hollywood.
Main drawback: the installation files are huge 200GB! and requires a lot of dependencies. (I couldn't install it on my son's laptop.)
See Kevin's Tutorial and related videos:
Camtasia
See above. One tool for both recording and editing. NOT free.
